Five things I didn't know last week

For those of you who enjoyed my post last week - the listing of "things which are not fruit", I bring you its much anticipated follow up - "things that are not chickens".

Also, a rip off of the BBC magazine feature "10 things we didn't know last week".

So I'm being wholly original then.

1. The Montserrat Mountain Chicken is not a chicken. It lives up a mountain and tastes like chicken.

2. The Greater Prairie Chicken is also not really a chicken.

3. Spear fishing is actually banned in Mauritius (frowny face).

4. The Mauritian yellow wasp sting really is very painful, and no one was particularly exaggerating.

5. There is such an animal as the Giant Otter that lives in the Amazon basin. It's up to 2 metres long and eats, among other things, pirahnas and anacondas. Otters suddenly seem far more sinister.

My picture is from a day trip a few of us took last week to the Seven Coloured Earths site within the Black River Gorges National Park near our house.
