A birthday abroad (again)

As you may know, this week was my birthday.

Thank you all for your messages, and in some cases, gentle abuse. Also thank you to my lovely fellow PG-Dippers for the many rounds of happy-birthday-ing, whilst plying me with free wine and/or pudding.

It so happens that that same day as the anniversary of my birth, was also the 'launch' of our post graduate course at the High Commission in Mauritius. We made the news - see here for the French version. Also see the FaceBook page for some pictures (including one of me looking unprepared). Apparently it was on the evening news last night too - a couple of government ministers were in attendance and that makes it news-worthy. So a big deal over here for Brit-Mauritian relations.

Mostly I was grateful for the many years of L'Oreal schmoozing under my belt. You'll all be happy to know that I caused no diplomatic incidents, although the Deputy Commissioner did seek me out during the mingling to give me her card, for use in any "situations" I might encounter. Presumably she has an eye for the hapless troublemaker.

Of course, no evening is complete without a stop at KFC and having a debate with the lady behind the counter about why she can't sell you some chicken that isn't in a burger, despite the obvious abundance of chicken. Then some cheap cane rum and early to bed. Rock n' roll.
